Other Therapies

While not required, several complementary therapies can be helpful when undergoing fertility treatments. Spring Fertility partners with several holistic providers, massage therapists, nutritionists, and seasoned yogis experienced at stress management and healing.

  • Mental Health: Experiencing challenges to conceiving can be incredibly stressful for some patients. We can recommend support groups and individualized counseling with experienced and empathetic mental health professionals.
  • Yoga: Yoga’s major benefit for fertility is its calming effect on the body to help manage stress. It can also help you develop a healthy back and posture, strength and flexibility, as well as mental clarity and reduce anxiety.
  • Acupuncture: Acupuncture’s major benefit for fertility is its ability to reduce stress by releasing endorphins. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine that entails placing tiny needles on meridians (energy points on the body). A typical acupuncture treatment lasts for about 20-30 minutes. Spring Fertility enjoys productive relationships with several Bay Area Acupuncturists and is willing to work with your acupuncturist to provide integrated and holistic care.
  • Massage: The major benefit of massage for fertility is improving one’s overall feeling of well-being. Even a brief massage can greatly improve relaxation and state of mind, while helping to flush toxins from the body. We recommend several massage therapists for their commitment to service and patient care.
  • Nutrition and Exercise: Nutrition and exercise play a major role in fertility and everyday life, as women closer to their ideal BMI have a better chance of conception. We are happy to provide guidelines on what to eat and which vitamin supplements take, and look forward to partnering with the Bay Area’s finest nutritionists, chefs, and fitness centers that can offer healthy food and exercise options to our patients.

Lifestyle Modifications

Curious about what you can do to make the most of your treatment plan? Here are some basic modifications we recommended.

In general, considering fertility options or going through treatment can involve a few steps, a bit of a learning curve for most, and some flexibility in your schedule. While you won’t need to miss a significant amount of time in your usual routine (aside from a handful of 30-60 min. appointments, travel to get here, and a morning off if you do an egg retrieval or our Same Day 360° ), this is a good time to slow down and take it easy, to maximize your mental health and well-being.

More specifically:

  • Food: eat whatever you like! A balanced diet is best.
  • Alcohol: is fine in moderation, or about ~2 drinks daily
  • Exercise: is fine until 1 week before/after retrieval, then you’ll want to avoid any activity that involves a lot of jumping. Walking, yoga, biking are fine.
  • Sexual intercourse: is fine with protection until day 5 of ovarian stimulation.
  • Caffeine: in moderation, with a recommended max of about ~2 cups daily.
  • Travel: during ovarian stimulation, you’ll be coming in for 5-6 morning monitoring appointments, and will want to get lots of rest. While you can travel if you absolutely must and can do an outside monitoring appointment with a local doctor, we do recommend you staying in town if possible.
  • Socializing: many patients say they benefited from having some quiet time, to take care of to-do’s within the home and even enjoy complementary therapies like acupuncture and massage, spa treatments, and whatever else helps them relax.

Spring Fertility’s main clinic and lab is conveniently located at 1 Daniel Burnham Court, Suite 110C. We’re on the ground floor of a mixed use residential and commercial high rise in the heart of San Francisco’s Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood, just south of the Marina district. It’s also close to Japan Town and steps away from City Hall, Hayes Valley and Union Square.

Getting Here

  • Drop off: if you are being dropped off by car, our main entrance is on Daniel Burnham Court, a two-way side street between Franklin and Van Ness. You can also enter the building through entrances on Van Ness and Post.
  • Parking: Parking is available in our building via the entrance on Post Street, between Franklin and Van Ness. Street parking is also available, particularly on Franklin or Van Ness. Metered parking is available on Franklin or Van Ness, and the app will let you pay by phone using the unique ID number on the meter.
  • Public transport: the SF MTA MUNI buses 38, 38s, 41 all have stops within a block of our office.

From out of town?

  • Airport access: San Francisco is close to two major international airports, San Francisco International (SFO) and Oakland International (OAK). They’re each about 12 miles (19 km) from Spring. Both airports are accessible by public transit bus and rail systems (BART or MUNI), and by taxi. We also recommend ride-sharing apps Uber and Lyft, which offer door-to-door service.
  • Where to stay: there are many hotels in the area rated on Trip Advisor. For longer stays, try Airbnb. For last minute bookings, try HotelTonight.
  • Food: San Francisco is home to an array of incredible restaurants, from authentic Vietnamese to New American, from casual gastropubs to Michelin-star fine dining. If you’re looking for recommendations and reservations, try SFEaterOpenTable, or Yelp.
  • Sightseeing: San Francisco has many landmarks, museums and beautiful parks, such as Golden Gate Parkthe Golden Gate BridgeCalifornia Academy of SciencesDeYoung Museum, the new SFMOMA, the Ferry Building, and Dolores Park. Out of town patients have left itineraries to share, including sunset cocktails in the Ritz at Half Moon Bay, favorite spas and restaurants and day trips to wineries in Sonoma and Napa.
