Single or Double Embryo Transfer?

Should I transfer one or two embryos? In clinics around the world, this question is asked daily. Some patients are hoping that by transferring two embryos, they are increasing their chances of pregnancy. Some patients are hoping for twins.

While other clinics may answer this question differently, we advocate for single embryo transfers. As the field of reproductive medicine has advanced, and with the use of pre-implantation genetic testing, we have become more efficient at predicting which embryos will result in a successful pregnancy, and later, healthy baby.

If you transfer more than one embryo, you increase your chance of a multiple pregnancy, and also thereby increase risk to both mom and future baby(ies).
