Under the Microscope: Millions of sperm in search of an egg
While the focus of most couples seeking fertility treatment is related to female factors, there has been a large shift of attention towards male factor infertility, and many believe the effects of sperm are greater than once thought.
There aren’t many tests that confirm how sperm negatively impact embryo development. DNA fragmentation has been met with some criticism and very few couples even repeat the test to see if it fluctuates.
Lifestyle factors like changes in diet, lifestyle improvements, increased antioxidants and vitamins are all up for debate.
What we are learning is that more emphasis on the sperm is needed and with so few options for testing, some room for improvement is required. What tests have you had on your semen sample and what changes have you been recommended to improve the semen quality?
