Why Is Fertility Bloodwork Often Combined With Other Testing?
Hormone levels represent only one part of reproductive health. Fertility specialists often interpret bloodwork alongside age, menstrual history, ultrasound findings, semen analysis and evaluation of the uterus and fallopian tubes. Looking at these findings together provides a more complete clinical picture than any individual blood test can provide.

When Is Fertility Bloodwork Performed?
The timing of fertility bloodwork depends on the hormone or marker being measured. Some tests are most informative during a particular phase of the menstrual cycle, while others can be performed across a broader range of cycle days.
Early-Cycle Bloodwork
FSH and estradiol are commonly measured near the beginning of the menstrual cycle. These results may be considered as part of ovarian reserve and early-cycle hormone assessment.
Bloodwork Around Ovulation
LH may be measured when evaluating the hormonal changes associated with ovulation, while progesterone is generally assessed after expected ovulation when the clinical goal is to determine whether ovulation likely occurred.
Testing With More Flexible Timing
