What Does a High FSH Result Mean?
FSH is produced by the pituitary gland and helps stimulate follicles in the ovaries to grow. Early in the menstrual cycle, FSH signals the ovaries to recruit and develop follicles that may ultimately produce a mature egg.
When ovarian reserve declines, the body may produce more FSH in an effort to stimulate the ovaries. For this reason, an elevated early-cycle FSH level can sometimes be associated with diminished ovarian reserve.
